Game studio LucasArts has unveiled plans to rejuvenate old favorites through digital downloads, including a freshened-up version of the original Monkey Island and an all-new episodic Monkey Island series broken into five episodes.

The game development arm of George Lucas's Star Wars empire will roll out ten PC fan faves this Wednesday, July 8th, via Steam, Valve Technology's digital download service. The first series of games will be Armed and Dangerous, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure, LOOM, Star Wars Battlefront II, Star Wars Republic Commando, Star Wars Starfighter, The Dig, and Thrillville: Off the Rails.
These family-friendly favorites will be joined by other classic titles in upcoming rollouts. Fans can keep up to date on the latest LucasArts goings-on via the official LucasArts Games Twitter account.
Most exciting for longtime fans is the news that PC and Wii gamers will get five new Monkey Island adventures -- one per month -- with help from developer Telltale Games. Tales from Monkey Island is available for pre-order on the official Telltale site; you can buy all five episodes for $34.95.
According to LucasArts, "Telltale's Tales of Monkey Island brings the adventures of pirate Guybrush Threepwood into a new era with an explosive storyline that becomes deeper and more entangled during the course of the five-episode saga. While battling his nemesis, the evil pirate LeChuck, Guybrush accidentally unleashes an insidious voodoo pox that threatens to transform the buccaneers of the Caribbean into unruly pirate monsters. Players will experience the humor, romance, and swashbuckling action the Monkey Island games are famous for and unravel an insidious plot which is revealed across the course of the series."
Meanwhile, PC and Xbox 360 Live gamers will be able to download The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, a spiffed-up version of the original with new graphics, voiceovers, a hint system, and more.
