Will Wright, the award-winning mastermind behind The Sims games, shook up the gaming world last September with Spore, a huge game that allows you to build your own space creature from its very cells. A so-called "god" game, the player controls the evolution of his or her space critter through different stages: the cell stage, the creature stage, the tribal stage, the civilization stage, and finally the space stage.
Now Wii gamers are getting their very own take on Spore with Spore Hero, which brings the same cool gameplay from the original tweaked for the Wii's motion-sensing specialties. Everything from the original PC version is included, but Spore Hero takes advantage of the Wii's special abilities. Additionally, Spore Hero features a slightly different take on the Spore universe, as the game itself is specifically driven by a story and primary goal: to evolve to the point where you can fight to save your universe from a mysterious big bad guy.
As EA's Lucy Bradshaw told MTV's Multiplayer blog last March, "This is very playful... It takes advantage of the controls explicitly. And even stylistically, when you see the game, you'll go, 'Oh yeah, that's definitely a Nintendo Wii game.'"
DS gamers already have Spore Creatures at their fingertips, but they'll be getting a new Spore Hero Arena with the same new story as Spore Hero and extra DS goodies like battle skirmishes and more.
Spore is very popular with adults of all ages, and Spore Hero looks like it will present a great opportunity for parents and kids to play a fascinating game together.
Spore Hero for the Wii has not yet been rated, but the DS version has already received an E from the ESRB. You can check out videos and more for Spore Hero at the official Spore website. Additionally, take a look at GameDaily's review of Spore for the PC. It got a thumbs up!
